Covering central and northern Beckenham to protect
and promote the interests of residents in matters of local concern

Covering central and northern Beckenham, The Copers Cope Area Residents Association was founded in 1936 to protect and promote the interests of residents on matters of local concern.

The CCARA is non party-political.

We have two or three open meetings a year, with a Newsletter and a regularly updated Web site at www.coperscope.org.uk

Over the last few years the Association has been going through a number of changes, some good and some not so good. From March 2008 until October 2009 due to illness and other difficulties, it was not possible for us to circulate our newsletter. We lost a number of our committee and a few of us had to multi-task, to try and deal with a number of problems.

Then in December 2009 our Chairman Mr Maurice Hudson, sadly passed away.

Recently at our Annual General Meeting on the 3rd of March, Mr David Vevers became our new Chairman & Mr Roger Leach is now our new Vice Chairman.

Mr Colin Watts remains our Hon. President & Mr Nick Carter is now our Hon. Vice President.

Now with a number of new committee members & many new members joining us, we can continue to go forward into the future.

However, people to represent the interests of Beckenham residents on traffic, transport, parking, health, town centre development and other issues are still keenly sought.

The Executive Committee’s report to its Annual General Meeting on March 3rd. 2010 noted its come-back from fears of disbandment only a year ago, with the recruitment of new helpers, the establishment of an active news website and circulation of a self-financing 32 page newsletter.

However, it said, changes in planning rules and alcohol laws had made it even harder to block anti-social building development and late-night alcohol-inspired incidents, while they had had too few workers to campaign effectively on local issues.

The election of officers and committee resulted:

Chairman – David Vevers; vice-Chairman – Roger Leach; Treasurer – J Wynter; Executive committee -- Marsha Berg, Louise Cooper, David Hawthorn, Myra Heffernan, Malcolm Llewellyn, Chloe Ross.
Honorary officers appointed were: President – Colin Watts; vice-President – Nick Carter; Auditor – G Kowalewska.
